Gionee Marathon M5 Review: Lots of Screen on Time!

A phone that keeps on running! Gionee recently launched Marathon M5 review which has a 6020 mAh battery, which means more stamina to run and get things done. Let’s have a closer look at what this device has in store for you.

Design and Display:

With a 6020mAh battery, people might have an impression that the device will be bulky. But it’s nothing like that. Marathon M5 is sleek and simple in design. The overall device weighs about 209 grams and its dimensions are 76.16 x 152.04 x 8.63 (mm).

The 5.5-inch device has a metallic unibody design but doesn’t make the Marathon M5 heavy to carry around. The right-hand side of the device houses a volume rocker and power button, and dual sim slots and MicroSD are on the left-hand side.

The audio jack and infrared LED are on the top and the bottom houses a mic and Micro USB port for charging. The back side of the device is a kind of mix of plastic and metal which makes the device slightly clunky.

The 5.5-inch display comes with HD AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection which makes the display pretty vivid and sharp. The colors are great and the display adjusts towards direct light efficiently.

Hardware and OS:

Marathon M5 comes loaded with a 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor, and 3 GB RAM. The 32 GB available storage is expandable up to 128 Gb which makes things, even more, better.

The device hardly lags or hangs during multitasking. We even tried to play some heavy games and we hardly faced any issues in the initial usage. The only thing was the heating up of a device a bit, ignorable but still noticeable.

Marathon M5 runs on Android 5.1 along with a layer of its own Amigo 3.1. The UI is pretty smooth and nice and navigating around was easy. It was not cluttered but does come with pre-installed apps like Du Battery Saver, Gionee Xender, Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, Amigo Paper, etc.

The control panel appears when you slide the screen upwards where you get options like data connectivity, profile, location, adjust brightness, etc. Gionee has loaded Marathon M5 with call record, Smart gestures, Eco mode, Chameleon, and IR blaster features.

Camera:

Just like any other mid-ranger, Marathon M5 comes with a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera. The camera app interface is pretty easy and smooth to use. You can choose from modes like Normal, Professional, Beauty, Filter, HDR, Panorama, Night, and more.

Other options available with the camera app are geo-tagging, Ultra Pixel (shown in the screenshot below), Countdown, etc. Both the cameras give a good output, something which Gionee cameras never fail to do. The daylight output is great and the low light output is pretty good too.

Battery:

The selling point of the Marathon M5, the device comes loaded with a 6020mAh battery, which is a set of two 3101mAh batteries, making it much safer for device usage. When it comes to usage, MM5 promises a battery backup of up to 62 hours.

The device also comes with two charging chips, which help in fast heat dissipation and charging. Under extreme mode, you can turn on the Smart Power Consumption system, which can give you standby for up to 32 hours with only 5 % battery remaining.
