Alcatel Idol 4 specifications and price, hands on review

Alcatel Idol 4 is the latest smartphone by Alcatel, let’s talk about this smartphone it’s hardware specifications and a lot of other things in detail.  The device comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 and features a custom UI by Alcatel called as Live UI. The phone comes with almost stock implementation but some features like completely reversible UI are really great. It has stereo speakers on the front as well as back and depending upon how you have placed your phone one pair of speakers works in conjunction and that makes for a truly great experience. These are few of the features which make this device stand out from a sea of other devices.

Alcatel recently announced the launch of its latest one Idol 4 in India. With the launch of this this VR integrated device. Alcatel steps in the extensive world of Virtual reality in the 15k-20k range. Idol 4 will be exclusively available on www.flipkart.com

Talking about the phone, the packaging includes a pair of virtual reality goggles and the smartphone and a JBL in-ear headphones. Once the smartphone and the goggles are combined, the user enters the immersive world of 360-degree viewing and gaming. Saved virtual reality movies, games and every similar content can be downloaded into the device by the built-in application, Onetouch VR store.

Let’s talk further about Alcatel IDOL 4 specifications and details:

Specifications: 5.2-inch IPS display (1920 x 1080 pixels), Android 6.0, 4G, hybrid SIM slot, 3 GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 16 GB storage, microSD slot, 13 MP rear camera with phase detection auto-focus, 8 MP front camera, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, 135 grams; 2,610 mAh battery.

Design:

This smartphone’s superior design is something to look for. It has a glass and metallic design which is pretty lightweight. While the Alcatel’s logo sits in the centre, the speakers on the top and bottom gives it a different look. Though, the glass is prone to catch fingerprints so a constant wiping would be required. Also, the power key is placed on the left side which is a bit odd for right handed users. But overall the look is classy and best in this price range.

Something new:

This is the new customizable boom key which is a one touch key for every function: music, camera, gallery and videos and also works as a power button, giving relief to right hand users. The user can even customize it’s function in setting from a set of options preloaded. Overall the idea of this key is something new but definitely something to look at.

VR Experience:

The VR headset which comes with Idol 4 is exclusively usable for this phone only and cannot be used with any other phone. Once the headset is plugged in the phone, The VR mode is automatically started. It can be switched off in the settings. There are few games preloaded in the phone and rest can be downloaded from it’s store. Also, after using this mode for 15-20 minutes, the metallic sides starts becoming hot and becomes a bit difficult to hold.

Camera:

Alcatel Idol 4 comes with a 13 MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus. It has a fast shutter speed. Pictures clicked outside are pretty good with almost no noise with indoor clicks are just average. It comes with many shooting modes like slo-mo, panorama, micro video etc. It has an 8 MP front camera with selfie assistant flash. Again, the image quality is just average.

Audio:

It has stereo speakers placed in the front top and bottom which emanate the sound and it is probably the best in this price range. Sound quality is pretty sharp and clear. This smartphone comes with it’s exclusive music app for amplified sound quality.

Overall verdict:

Here’s our hands on review video for the Alcatel Idol 4, watch it to know about the design and other things of this phone for yourself. That being said it’s a greatly designed smartphone and has a decent VR experience but considering the price when you talk about things like battery life and few other things then this smartphone falls short.
