Amazon Introduced a New Male Voice for Alexa

On February 23rd, today amazon’s Alexa completes five years in India. Amazon stated that millions of people in India have bought Echo devices. People engage with Alexa in English, Hindi or Hinglish requesting stuff such as music, jokes, news, recipes, alarms, reminders, smart home control and more.

In 2022, usage of Alexa-enabled devices such as Amazon’s Echo smart speaker, Fire TV stick and other devices grew by 37 per cent compared to 2021. The majority of new customers began their journey with Alexa on the Amazon Shopping App.

Amazon will announce offers on best-selling Alexa devices from 2nd – 4th March 2023 To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Alexa.

Data shows that Alexa usage in India continues to increase:

In 2022, music requests for Alexa increased by almost 53%, with people streaming songs through major music apps such as Amazon Prime Music, Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music. Requests for Alexa-enabled Fire TV devices to search and control the playback of favourite content increased by 600%.

Customers enjoyed making hands-free bill payments with Alexa on Echo devices, resulting in a notable 102% increase in transactions. The popularity of interacting with Alexa can be seen in the frequent questions asked, such as “Alexa, how are you” (31,680 times per day), and “Alexa, I love you” (21,600 times per day), which increased by 214% and 275%, respectively, demonstrating customers’ fondness for Alexa.

Alexa’s responses in a new voice in India:

For the first time, Indian users can now switch from Alexa’s original voice to a new masculine-sounding voice. This new voice is capable of responding in both English and Hindi languages. To switch to the new voice, users can simply say “Alexa, change your voice” on their Echo device or access the settings in the Alexa app and select Alexa’s voice.

Moreover, customers can use any of the wake words, including Alexa, Echo, Computer, and Amazon, to ask questions in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, making the experience more seamless and inclusive. To hear samples of the new voice option, click here to listen human-like quality of the voice.
