Enhancements in Android 15 for Comprehensive Dark Mode Support Across Apps

Explore the advanced ‘Force Dark’ feature in Android 15, optimizing dark mode compatibility for an immersive app interface.

Reports on April 26, according to foreign technology media Android Authority, suggest that Google intends to introduce a “dark all applications” feature in the Android 15 system, which can force applications to switch to dark mode even if they do not support it natively.

In Android 10, Google introduced a system-level dark mode.

Currently, most mainstream applications can automatically toggle between light and dark modes based on system changes. Users can also access developer options in the system and enable the “override force-dark” option to force applications to switch to dark mode.

In the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update released by Google in January of this year, a new “Darken all apps” option was hidden under “Settings” > “Accessibility” > “Color and motion”, but it did not function after being enabled.

This option is also present in the Android 15 Beta 1.2 released by Google today. Although it is still not displayed by default, the relevant functionalities have become operational.

According to media testing, “Darken all apps” utilizes a different forced dark algorithm at the underlying layer, which can cover more applications.

We have attached a comparison of the effects below:
