It’s been barely a month since the launch of Apple Airpods 2nd generation and we already have news about the next generation of Airpods with noise reduction tech built in them. The leaks this time have originated from the supply chain which claims that Apple has one more Airpods launch lined up for the end of 2019. So most probably Apple AirPods 3 with noise reduction is already in the works and might see the light of day soon.
Analyst Guo Minghao had predicted earlier that Apple would release two new AirPods in the fourth quarter of 2019. And now some other rumours confirm that AirPods 3rd generation would be available by the end of this year and they would also come with noise reduction. The major thing that remains to be seen is how Apple would achieve noise reduction in their traditional AirPods form factor which has a very low potential of forming a tight seal in the user’s ears.
Apple AirPods 3: The rumours and sources.
The news originated from DigiTimes which has a great understanding of Apple’s supply chain. Taiwan Inventec would be the main foundry for this headset and Shenzhen Lixun Precision would also get a part of the order.
The report quoted the source of the message as saying that “noise reduction technology is not a new technology, but it is a relatively unmanageable technology. On one hand, semiconductor devices are almost always operated under electromagnetic interference; on the other hand, how the structural design of the noise forward feedback microphone can be well done to achieve coordinated operation with other devices is a huge challenge for both the designer and the assembler. Also, the headphone noise reduction function will consume more battery power. And it’s yet to be seen how Apple will reduce energy consumption.”
The sources also claim that Apple’s two AirPods’ approach would feature one with the traditional design and another high-end model which would be pricier but will come with an improved design etc. In this way, the AirPods 3 mentioned by DigiTimes may be the second high-end model predicted by Guo, and its design is completely different from the existing AirPods.
Apple AirPods 3: Contradicting predictions.
In March last year, Bloomberg added to Guo Mingxi’s prediction that Apple will introduce high-end headphones, claiming that the headset will be a headset with noise reduction, and competitors are high-end headphones like Bose.
Apple did have sales of more than 35 million units in 2018 and has a global market share of 75%. They have ruled the global wireless headset markets for quite some time now!
If an updated AirPods model is launched this year itself it might daze the consumers as one new model has already been launched.
