Apple Receives Patent for a Keyless Keyboard Patent With Force Sensing and Tactile Feedback

As of March 11, the latest news reveals that Apple has been granted a patent application for a “keyless keyboard with force sensing and tactile feedback”.

The abstract indicates that this invention offers an input device for an electronic device that comprises a housing and a top member that defines an input surface containing multiple distinguishable input areas.

The input device includes a first force sensing system linked to the first region of the top member, which consists of a first set of distinguishable input regions, and a second force sensing system connected to the second region of the top member which has a second set of distinguishable input regions.

The touch sensing system is configured to identify which input area from the first set of distinguishable input areas corresponds to the first force input and determine which input area from the second set of distinguishable input areas corresponds to the second force input.

Previously, we reported that the MacBook Pro keyboard may feature the same design as the touchpad in the future. This implies that Apple users may no longer have the experience of traditional keyboard tapping but instead have the same haptic feedback experience as the iPhone Home button and the MacBook Pro touchpad.
