Apple M2 Mac Mini 2023 Specifications and Details, Launched today!

Apple has just announced the new Mac mini, which is now equipped with the M2 chip, and the all-new M2 Pro. The M2 chip makes the Mac mini even more powerful, capable, and affordable, starting at $599. The new M2 Pro chip provides pro-level performance to the Mac mini for the first time, enabling users to run high-performance workflows that were not possible before on a compact design.

The Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro offers faster performance, more unified memory, and advanced connectivity options, including support for up to two displays on the M2 model and up to three displays on the M2 Pro model. Paired with Studio Display and Magic accessories, and the user-friendly macOS Ventura, the Mac mini offers an exceptional desktop experience that can boost productivity and creativity. The new Mac mini models are available for order today, with availability starting on Tuesday, January 24.

Performance Improvements Over Previous Generation

The M2 and M2 Pro in the new Mac mini bring significant improvements compared to the previous generation Mac mini. The new chips include a faster next-generation CPU and GPU, significantly higher memory bandwidth, and a more powerful media engine, which results in exceptional performance and industry-leading energy efficiency. Both models also have advanced thermal systems that ensure sustained performance.

The M2 Mac Mini

Mac mini with M2 comes with an 8-core CPU, four high-performance and four high-efficiency cores, and a 10-core GPU. It is perfect for users who want superfast performance and high productivity at an affordable starting price of $599. With up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s of bandwidth, tasks like image editing in Adobe Photoshop are up to 50% faster than the previous generation. The M2 chip also adds ProRes acceleration to the Mac mini, which allows tasks like video editing in Final Cut Pro to be more than twice as fast. The M2 model can also simultaneously play up to two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. With this level of performance, the Mac mini is up to 5x faster than the best-selling Windows desktop, making it an excellent choice for first-time computer buyers, upgraders, and those switching from PC.

When compared to the Mac mini with Intel Core i7, the Mac mini with M2 offers:

  • Up to 22x faster machine learning (ML) image upscaling performance in Pixelmator Pro.
  • 9.8x faster complex timeline rendering in Final Cut Pro.

When compared to the previous-generation Mac mini with M1, the Mac mini with M2 delivers:

Mac Mini M2 Pro 2023

The M2 Pro chip brings pro-level performance to the Mac mini for the first time. The M2 Pro has a 12-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, along with a 19-core GPU. It has 200GB/s of memory bandwidth, double that of the M2 chip, and supports up to 32GB of memory.

The next-generation Neural Engine is 40% faster than the M1 chip, which speeds up ML tasks such as video analysis and image processing. The M2 Pro has a powerful media engine that accelerates video playback and encoding while consuming very little power. It can simultaneously play up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. The Mac mini with M2 Pro is up to 14x faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac mini.

When compared to the 27-inch iMac with Intel Core i7 and Radeon Pro 5500 XT, the Mac mini with M2 Pro offers:

  • Up to 50% faster filter and function performance in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Up to 5.5x faster panoramic merge in Adobe Lightroom Classic.
  • Up to 4.4x faster object tracking in Final Cut Pro.

When compared to the previous-generation M1 Mac mini, the Mac mini with M2 Pro delivers:

  • Up to 2.5x faster graphics performance in Affinity Photo.
  • Up to 4.2x faster ProRes transcode in Final Cut Pro.
  • Up to 2.8x faster gameplay in Resident Evil Village.

These figures demonstrate that Mac mini with M2 Pro is more powerful, efficient, and faster than the previous-generation Mac mini with M1 and 27-inch iMac with Intel Core i7 and Radeon Pro 5500 XT. The M2 Pro chip allows Mac mini users to run high-performance workflows that were previously impossible in such a compact form factor.

Apple Mac Mini 2023 Pricing and Availability in India

The new Mac mini models (M2 and M2 Pro) are now available for order on the Apple website (http://apple.com/in/store) and in the Apple Store app in 27 countries and regions, including the US. The Mac mini will start shipping to customers and be available in Apple Stores and authorized resellers starting January 24th. The new models will be available in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, and New Zealand starting February 3rd.

The Mac mini M2 starts at INR 59900 and INR 49900 for education, while the M2 Pro starts at INR 129900 and INR 119900 for education. Additional technical specifications can be found on the Apple website (http://apple.com/in/mac-mini).
