ASUS 6Z review, launched in India, price and more!

Is this the best selfie camera smartphone out there?

The ASUS Zenfone 6 as it was previously called suffered some major branding changes because of a legal case and is now the ASUS 6Z. The device has definitely received some rave reviews and is one of the better flagship smartphones out there this year. One of the best things about this phone is the flip camera mechanism which makes sure that you can use the 48MP primary sensor as the selfie camera and the back camera too! Read on for our full ASUS 6Z review in detail!

Here are our ASUS 6Z unboxing videos in Hindi and English:

ASUS 6Z: Key features

One of the other talking points about this phone is the big 5000 mAh battery and the addition of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. Our unboxing video along with the initial impressions is already up, where we discussed the build and design of this smartphone. We also talked about what features this phone offers.

ASUS 6Z build and design

It has a 6.4″ Full HD+ 19.5:9 aspect ratio display and a peak brightness of 600 nits and nominal brightness of 450 nits. The bottom has a slight chin and there’s no notch in here. The display shows a slight blue tint but it’s nothing that’s non-fixable. Packed with a Corning Gorilla glass 6 protection it is definitely one of the well-protected devices out there.

It is a slightly big and chunky device as it has a huge battery and has got quite a heft to it. One handed usage suffers a little because of the big screen experience. But it’s a trade-off that you should be willing to make!

ASUS 6Z review: The performance!

asus 6z flip camera mechanism

The device comes with the 7nm Snapdragon 855 which easily allows it to breeze through benchmarks and games. There’s an AI boost mode which makes sure that this is one of the highest scoring devices on benchmarks out there.

ASUS has packed in reverse charging with this device and the 5000 mAH battery gives you a screen on time of more than 8 hours or so. For normal users, this device can easily last up to 2 days on normal usage.

The drain during gaming is also very low and for those people who are fans of long gaming sessions, this phone won’t disappoint them.

The device is expected to get updates to Android Q and Android R as and when they are available. It runs a very clean stock version of Android and the only changes ASUS has made are in the camera application.

ASUS 6Z camera experience

The smartphone comes with a 48 MP f/1.7 aperture Sony IMX 586 sensor at the back along with an ultra-wide sensor. The sensors are capable of shooting 4k videos. The ultrawide is limited to 30 fps while the main sensor can shoot up to 4K 60 fps videos.

The camera was good for normal day to day usage and even low light performance was pretty good. The only thing that was missing was the lack of dedicated OIS. The gyro-EIS does work well but a dedicated stabilisation solution would have been great. The colour science also takes a hit sometimes when shooting really bright colours on some objects but overall the camera on this device is a solid 9/10.

ASUS 6Z review: Cons

The flip camera module is a polarizing aspect of this smartphone. It’s a great solution to avoid the notch and have a full-screen display. But because of the fact that this is a moving component, the chances of failure are pretty high. The mechanism can easily catch lint and dust over a long period of time and it isn’t the sturdiest out there.

This is the only major concern about the ASUS 6Z.

Apart from that this device does come with support for dual-band wifi, NFC, 3.5 mm jack and does tick all of the boxes. The stereo speaker setup is one of the loudest ones we have tested to date and is definitely great for multimedia consumption.

Asus 6Z price in India and launch offers

Asus 6Z would retail in India for a price of INR 31,999 for the 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variant.

The device is expected to be available on Flipkart online platform and sales start from 26th of June!
