Reports from October 11 reveal that BMW has today launched official images of the 2024 BMW X2 sports compact SUV. BMW representatives have confirmed that the new vehicle will be presented at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 28 and will be available for purchase in the United States in March of the following year. The latest BMW X2 is constructed on the same platform as the X1 and boasts a fresh dynamic design. The front of the new X2 features sharp lines and a compact hood design, giving it a powerful sense of motion. The body's side showcases a classic "SUV coupe" style, with rear floating windows and sloping rear pillars enhancing the dynamic aesthetic. The car's rear section has a full shape and split taillights, with a small canard added for extra dynamism. The new X2's drag coefficient is a mere 0.25, impressive for an SUV standing 1.6 meters tall. M35i models also have a unique grille design and quad tailpipes, highlighting their high-performance nature. The new vehicle's dimensions are 4554mm in length, 1844mm in width, and 1590mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2692mm. The new X2's interior closely resembles that of the X1, featuring a curved dual screen made up of a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a 10.7-inch infotainment screen. The center console's button layout is more driver-centric. The vehicle comes with BMW's latest iDrive 9 system and includes an inward-facing camera for photo or video recording. The car offers an optional panoramic sunroof, a trunk capacity of 25 cubic feet (approximately 708 liters), and the option for Alcantara seats. The standard seats are crafted from a non-animal artificial leather known as "Veganza". In Europe, the new X2 comes with a range of power options including a pure electric model, a four-cylinder diesel model, a three-cylinder entry-level gasoline model, and a powerful four-cylinder gasoline model. In the US, the new X2 is available in two 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine models. The X2 xDrive 28i model features a 2.0-liter engine producing 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque (approximately 400 Nm); the X2 M35i xDrive model has a 312-horsepower engine with the same displacement but delivers power at lower rpm. Both engines come with standard all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The new X2's performance is impressive, with 0-60 mph (approximately 0-96 km/h) acceleration times of 6.2 seconds and 5.2 seconds respectively, and a top speed limited to 149 or 155 mph (approximately 240 or 249 km/h), depending on whether summer tires are chosen. Without summer tires, the top speed is limited to 130 mph (approximately 209 km/h). The new X2 also boasts a sturdier body, a wider track, and enhanced chassis components for improved handling. The base X2 xDrive 28i model can be upgraded with the M Sport package, which includes larger brakes, different steering, and adaptive dampers, standard on the M35i xDrive model. The new X2 comes with numerous online features and driver assistance systems, as well as in-car video games from the AirConsole platform. Besides the standard driving modes, Relax, Expressive, and Digital Art modes are also available. The price of the new X2 has not been disclosed yet, but it is anticipated to be several thousand dollars pricier than the similarly powered X1 model, which starts at around $40,000. As per earlier statements from BMW China officials, the BMW iX2 and X2 models will not be sold in the Chinese mainland market, and the BMW X2 model with the chassis code (F39) has also ceased domestic production after September.
