Broadcom’s $61B VMware Deal Takes Big Leap Forward with U.K. Antitrust Watchdog’s Tentative Approval!

In today’s breaking news, the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has made an official announcement that it has given its provisional approval to Broadcom’s whopping USD 69 billion acquisition of VMware.

This acquisition, which currently translates to approximately 5.6 Trillion INR or 495.42 billion yuan, will not result in a reduction of competition in the supply of critical computer server products, according to the CMA.

The CMA conducted an in-depth investigation into this acquisition after it expressed concerns in March that the deal could lead to an increase in server prices.

However, after reviewing evidence gathered from Broadcom, VMware, and other relevant parties, an independent CMA panel has provisionally concluded that the acquisition would not substantially reduce competition in the supply of server hardware components in the UK, further adding that the transaction would not impact server prices.

It’s important to note that before releasing the final report by September 12, the CMA is seeking comments on its initial comments.

Meanwhile, it’s worth mentioning that the European Union had also given the green light to this deal a week ago.
