On the afternoon of February 20, Huawei Kirin officially announced that new members of the Kirin chip family are about to come soon to the market. Huawei Kirin said that the advent of the 5G era has fully opened up the intelligent world of all things connected. “In order to better connect future tech, the Kirin chip family is about to welcome new members to inject ‘AI’ power into the smart connected ecosystem.”
So who will be the new entrants in the Kirin chip lineup? According to breaking news, this chip may be the Kirin 820 processor. There is also news that there may be a Kirin 990 5G Pro processor.
The Kirin 820 processor is expected to be built on TSMC’s new 6nm process and support 5G communication networks as well.
According to reports, the 6nm (N6) process is an upgraded version of the 7 nm technology and uses the same extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology as the 7N + technology, which provides 18% higher logic density than the 7nm process.
Last year, Huawei launched a 7nm Kirin 810 processor in China, but it did not have support for 5G networks. The release of the Kirin 820 processor is expected to enable Huawei’s mid-to-high-end Kirin 8 series chips to support new 5G technologies.
There have been prior confirmations that Huawei’s latest product and strategy online conference will be held at 21:00 on February 24th. At which time it is expected to launch a number of new products including mobile phones, tablets and computers. We have learned that among them, Huawei’s first 5G folding screen phone Huawei Mate Xs this year will support 65W fast charging, equipped with Kirin 990 5G processor.
