Huawei has been gearing since past few months for their latest product launch. The Mate 30 series launch is just around the corner and Huawei might break records this time in terms of camera capabilities and computing as well. Huawei managed to set the bar really high with the P30 Pro. Hence A lot of people have a lot of expectations from the upcoming Mate 30 series. The Huawei Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro are expected to come with a new chipset.
It’s not known yet which chipset this would be. Some earlier reports claimed it to be the Kirin 985 chipset. But newer leaks claim that this chipset can be the new 7nm+ Kirin 990 chipset. But the final word on this is not out yet!
A few days ago, Huawei released the most powerful AI chip i.e. 910 in Shenzhen headquarters and launched the full scene AI computing framework MindSpore.
When Xu Zhijun, the chairman of Huawei’s rotating company, introduced Huawei’s full-stack AI solution with DaVinci as the core architecture, some chip application cases appeared in the on-site PPT, which confirmed that Kirin 990 will be shown first in Germany IFA 2019 exhibition (September 6th)
Yesterday afternoon another Huawei official also released a teaser video called: “New Kirin chip, a new future experience. #Refactoring chip imagination #5G has come, are you ready?”
The video reveals three keywords: Rethink (reconsideration), Evolution (evolution), 5G.
According to other foreign media reports, Kirin 990 is expected to adopt a new architecture (promising based on the Cortex-A77 CPU core and ARM’s Mali-G77 GPU, 7nm + EUV process), in addition, Huawei’s DaVinci architecture NPU may not come this time but a built-in 5G baseband is expected.
At Computex 2019 in May this year, ARM officially announced the new generation of mobile CPU architecture Cortex-A77 and the new generation Mali-G77 GPU chip solution. And they will become the mainstream of the new generation of flagship mobile phone CPU and GPU applications from the second half of 2019 to 2020.
According to other foreign media reports, in addition to the Huawei Mate 30 series, Mate X, which is still in the process of optimization, will also be equipped with the Kirin 990 chip, and at the same time, it will be equipped with new panels and screen hinges. In addition, the P40 series released in the first half of next year will also adopt this new tech.
According to foreign media, it is unclear whether the 5G baseband integrated by Kirin 990 supports both UHF millimetre wave and 5G network below 6GHz. At present countries like China mainly use the latter.
