To improve operational efficiency, IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, has adopted sensor technology for faster and more accurate scanning of life vests on its aircraft. This innovation has resulted in significant time savings across the airline’s fleet of 300 aircraft, each carrying over 53,000 life vests.
Neetan Chopra, IndiGo’s Chief Digital and Information Officer, stated that the sensor-based inspection process for life vests was developed in-house and enables the airline to prepare aircraft faster for the next flight. He also added that the company will continue to explore new avenues of utilizing technology to drive innovation and enhance operational efficiency, providing customers with on-time, hassle-free, and affordable travel experiences.
The sensor technology uses automated data collection to read the tags on the life vests and helps in identifying, tracking, and locating them. This technology also allows IndiGo to maintain real-time records of life vest expiry dates and availability.
IndiGo is one of the world’s fastest-growing low-cost carriers, operating over 1700 daily flights and connecting 76 domestic and 26 international destinations.
