According to Tom’s Hardware report, Intel may be planning to launch a streamlined version of the Xeon W-3175X processor. The Xeon W-3175X is the 28-core HEDT flagship product that Intel introduced a year ago and is the only CPU in the C621 chipset that uses the LGA 3647 slot.
According to SiSoftware’s data, the new Xeon uses 26 cores and it will be clocked at 4.1 GHz clock speed.
Currently, the Intel Xeon W-3175X is priced at $3,000 and is Intel’s most expensive high-end desktop CPU. But the truth is that it’s not enough to fight off the threat of the Ryzen high-end processors which offer a lot more performance per dollar. Therefore, the new 26 core Xeon should be positioned at the mid-to-high end, and the reputed tech media have predicted that it will sell for around $2,000.
A lot of tech publications believe that this Xeon is in response to AMD’s upcoming Threadripper 3rd generation CPU, you can read about it in more detail here. In addition, Intel also said on Wednesday that the next-generation high-end desktop processor code-named Cascade Lake-X will be released next month. Compared with the existing product code-named Skylake-X, the new CPU will greatly increase performance per every dollar spent.
So guys what do you say? Is it too late for Intel to make a comeback in the high-end CPU market? Or will they squeeze away market share from AMD with these new launches?
