iPhone Shipments Surge 52% in China This April

Apple’s iPhone shipments in China soared 52% in April, driven by retailer discounts and high consumer interest in premium models.

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s iPhone shipments in China surged by 52% year-on-year in April, thanks to a series of discounts offered by retail partners.

Recent data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology shows that domestic mobile phone shipments in April 2024 reached 24.07 million units, up 28.8% year-on-year.

Of these, about 3.5 million were from foreign brands, predominantly iPhones. After a tough start to the year with significant sales drops in the first two months, Apple’s sales rebounded in March and surged in April.

Since early 2024, Apple and its Chinese distributors have been cutting prices, a trend expected to continue until the upcoming 618 e-commerce shopping festival.

Bloomberg analysts believe that the decline in iPhone market share in China may soon stabilize as consumer interest in new devices grows.

Analysts Steven Tseng and Sean Chen noted that Apple is regaining popularity among Chinese consumers, surpassing Huawei once again as the favorite smartphone brand.

They attribute this shift to the premiumization of the Chinese market and consumer fatigue with long waits for high-end Huawei models.

Over half of the surveyed consumers expressed willingness to spend over 4,000 RMB on their next phone, while currently, only 33% use high-end models.
