Design and Display:
The overall design of Vibe S1 is pretty minimalist, the only changes being usage Gorilla Glass Design for both back and front. The makers have used a curved glass rear panel rounded into a metal premium frame. With curvature measuring from 5.4 mm to 7.8 mm, the device weighs only 132 g and fits snugly into your hands. The device comes with a premium metal body which used to be prime devices forte but now has trickled down to mid-level phones as well. The metal frame resembles recently launched Motorola series as well. The display is 5 inches full HD display with additions of capacitive buttons, which are not back-lit which is a little duh. On top of the device is a 3.5 mm audio jack, the right-hand side has volume and power button, the left side consists of hybrid Sim Card tray.
Software and Performance:
The Lenovo Vibe S1 is packed with MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core processor which comes with 1.7 GHz CPU and 3 GB of RAM. On papers, the device runs pretty smoothly, and when tried in hand, it ran pretty smoothly even with a few background apps opened. The 5-inch display has a great combination of colors, bright and vibrant enough for your eyes. You can also set up your color preferences using display color balance feature. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS combined with a layer of Lenovo’s custom UI. Another striking feature of S1 is that it gives you a lot of customization options. There is a wide touch option which brings shortcuts on the screen which gives you minimum coverage of the area and hides all other apps that your are not using. There is a secure zone mode where you can protect your device apps from being accessed by any other party.
Here’s a full fledged gaming review for the Vibe S1 smartphone:
Now the camera is the selling point of the device. There are two front cameras available, an 8 MP primary camera and a secondary camera of 2 MP to give you the desired results and depth information in your selfies. Once you capture a selfie, there are multiple backgrounds available where you can cut copy paste your picture.
For example, a pizza eating selfie in front of Leaning Tower of Pisa. The main camera is of 13 MP which is an okayish performer. In proper light, it will click good pictures but the performance is average in low light.
This is a full HD video sample taken from the front camera of the Lenovo Vibe S1:
With 2420 mAh battery, the device can last about 10-12 hours with rationed usage and decent on screen time. But If you are on your smartphone more than that, the juice will run out within 6 hours. So make sure to carry a charger whenever you go. On screen time is not that much so this smartphone does compromise on the battery front.
