Mercedes-AMG to Launch High-Performance Electric Super SUV in 2026

Mercedes-AMG plans to unveil a new flagship electric Super SUV by 2026, featuring over 1000 horsepower and cutting-edge technology, targeting luxury models from BMW and Porsche.

According to reports on April 14 and according to the publication “Autocar”, Mercedes-Benz’s performance department AMG has launched a plan to develop a “super SUV” based on its own pure electric platform.

This new car is positioned as a flagship product and will be unveiled in 2026. According to reports, its design goal is to benchmark the BMW XM, Lotus Eletre, and Porsche’s “K1” three-row flagship SUV being developed. This car will not be based on existing Mercedes-Benz models but will be developed entirely by AMG, with a unique styling and interior layout.

From a positioning point of view, it will become the “natural successor” of the current AMG GLE 63. Sources revealed that the new car will be up to 5100mm in length and have a wheelbase of more than 3000mm, providing spacious interior space and diverse expandability. Its “benchmark model” BMW XM is 5110mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3105mm.

In terms of other configurations, the car is built on an 800V electric architecture and will be equipped with an axial flux motor and a specially developed MB.OS car system, which is internally called “AMG.OS”.

The axial flux motor equipped in the new car will be developed by Yasa, a company acquired by AMG. It weighs only 59 pounds (Editor’s Note: about 26.786 kilograms) and can output 486 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.

It is reported that the platform developed by AMG can support a maximum of four-motor all-wheel drive configuration. This means that AMG’s new pure electric SUV is expected to deliver far more than 1,000 horsepower, while also having advanced four-wheel drive and torque vectoring technology.
