On June 17, Microsoft confirmed the closure of its Africa Development Center (ADC) in Lagos, Nigeria, resulting in over 200 employees being laid off.
The closure plan, first disclosed on May 8, affects only the Lagos office, while the Nairobi office in Kenya continues to operate.
The ADC, established in 2019, was Microsoft’s first development center in Africa, aimed at fostering local talent to create impactful solutions.
Affected employees in Lagos were notified of the restructuring and will receive their dues by the end of June.
The Lagos center still operates on a limited scale, focusing on customer service and product support, while contacts for the center have been removed from Microsoft’s website.
