Microsoft Fixing Word for Mac Lag and Unresponsiveness

Microsoft is addressing Word for Mac issues causing lag and freezing. Temporary solutions include using older Office versions or Microsoft 365 online.

According to reports on May 23, it has been observed that many Mac users have experienced significant lags and freezes (no response) in Microsoft Word over the past few months.

Recently, Microsoft officials acknowledged this issue and stated that they are working on a fix, providing two temporary solutions for users in the meantime.

We also noted that complaints about Word for Mac’s lags and freezes have surfaced on various platforms such as Apple and Microsoft forums, Reddit, and users have continued to face this problem even after the release of the macOS Sonoma 14.5 update on May 13.

Many users reported that they had to quit Word or restart their Mac to get the application running again, but the issue would soon recur.

This week, a Microsoft customer service representative posted on the Microsoft forums that the vulnerability has been submitted to the development team, who are “currently launching an investigation and working on a fix.”

For temporary solutions, Microsoft customer service suggested trying to download an earlier version of the Office for Mac suite, such as 16.84 or 16.83, to see if this resolves the problem. Alternatively, users can temporarily use the web version of Microsoft 365.
