Microsoft Rolls Out Start Menu Ads in Windows 11 with Option to Disable

Microsoft introduces ads in Windows 11’s Start Menu, viewable by all users but can be disabled manually in settings, strategic ad placement.

Microsoft has started implementing advertisements within the Start Menu of Windows 11, which will be visible to all users.

This initiative began with a brief test earlier this month with Windows Insiders and has now been expanded to all users through an optional update, KB5036980.

The ads primarily recommend applications from the Microsoft Store, selected by developers.

Although these ads are automatically activated, users have the option to disable them in the system settings under “Personalization” > “Start,” by turning off recommendations for apps, tips, and more.

This move by Microsoft utilizes the Start Menu’s “Recommended” section, which cannot be manually disabled, suggesting a deliberate strategy by the company.
