Microsoft has quietly updated its lightweight Validation OS for Windows 11 to version 24H2.
This system, designed for developers and hardware/software manufacturers, is used in factory settings to diagnose, mitigate, and fix hardware defects.
Initially released in June 2022 and updated in July 2023, the latest version is 24H2 RTM (Build 26100.1).
Those interested can download the Windows image (.WIM) files for ARM64 and AMD64 architectures from Microsoft’s official website.
After customizing the Validation OS image, users can create a bootable USB media or apply the image directly to a computer’s hard drive.
To set up a bootable Validation OS environment, you need:
- The latest Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit and Windows PE add-ons
- Customized Validation OS .wim image
- USB drive for creating bootable WinPE media and storing attachments
