Musk Admits xAI’s Grok Behind ChatGPT, Aims to Catch Up by Year-End

Elon Musk acknowledges xAI’s Grok chatbot lags behind ChatGPT but aims for parity by year-end, emphasizing truth and curiosity

On May 24, it was reported that Elon Musk acknowledged that his xAI chatbot Grok is not yet on par with ChatGPT, but he hopes it might catch up by the end of the year.

Speaking at the VivaTech conference in Paris via video, Musk discussed his AI startup xAI.

He mentioned that Grok, being a product of a new company, still has a lot of development ahead to compete with AI giants like Google DeepMind and OpenAI.

Musk emphasized the importance of Grok’s ability to pursue truth rigorously, stating that aiming for the highest degree of truth and curiosity is the safest approach for AI.

He believes these attributes will benefit humanity, helping Grok understand and promote human progress. He added humorously that if humans are destined to die, it’s best to die laughing.

Previously, it was reported that xAI released the Grok-1.5 language model and the first multimodal model Grok-1.5 Vision in March and April this year.

According to xAI, Grok-1.5V can match the current leading multimodal models in various fields such as multidisciplinary reasoning, document understanding, scientific charts, table processing, screenshots, and photos.
