Apple had planned to release new MacBooks and iPads with M3 chips this year, but due to insufficient production capability of TSMC’s 3nm process, M3 chip delivery has been delayed until next year.
This is disappointing news for Apple consumers eager to upgrade their gadgets. Apple’s self-developed next-generation processor, the M3, will be made utilising TSMC’s 3nm technology and it seems that it might be delayed. So consumers who had been waiting with bated breath for these new models might have to wait a year more.
The performance and power consumption are predicted to be greatly improved over the present M2 chip. The M3 chip will first be used in MacBook and iPad models, providing consumers with a smoother experience and longer battery life.
According to reports, Apple had intended to ship a variety of products featuring M3 CPUs this year, including a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, a redesigned MacBook Air in two sizes, and an iPad Pro with an OLED screen next year. However, due to TSMC’s technical difficulties in the 3nm process meeting the required parameters, the output was subpar and could not meet Apple’s requirements.
According to Twitter leaker Revegnus, Apple has decided to delay the availability of the M3 processor until next year, which implies that no Mac or iPad will be outfitted with the M3 chip this year.

Due to yield issues with TSMC not being able to supply enough of the M3 to Apple, Apple has delayed the release of the M3 until next year.

So, Apple’s M3 CPU has been delayed, and the new MacBook and iPad are not likely to be released this year.
Of course, this does not mean that Apple will release no new goods this year. This year, Apple will also unveil the iPhone 15 series, which will use the A17 bionic technology. The A17 bionic chip is likewise built on TSMC’s 3nm technology.
However, because the iPhone is Apple’s most important product line and its sales far outnumber those of the Mac and iPad, Apple may prioritise ensuring the supply of A17 bionic chips over the advancement of M3 chips.
It is advised to take this news with a pinch of salt. As it has not been formally confirmed. Maybe TSMC will increase its 3nm process production capacity in the second half of the year, and perhaps Apple will employ other strategies in order to ensure customers can buy newer and more powerful Mac models.
