The Nothing Phone 1 Gets Nothing OS 1.5.5 System Update, Fixes to Facial Recognition and More!

The update optimizes facial recognition as well as background app retention.

On July 2, it was reported that the Nothing Phone (1) mobile device had received an update to the Nothing OS system, specifically version 1.5.5. The size of the system update package was reported to be 114MB. The update was intended to address various issues, including those related to facial recognition, mobile phone background application retention, and Bluetooth power consumption.

More specifically, the update included several enhancements, such as improved recognition accuracy in low-light settings for facial recognition performance. In addition, when memory expansion is enabled, the number of applications allowed to run in the background was increased by 10%.

Furthermore, Bluetooth power consumption during night-time standby was reduced, and an issue that occasionally caused Adaptive Brightness to turn off automatically was fixed. Another issue that prevented users from taking photos was also addressed, along with various other issues related to facial recognition.

The Nothing Phone (1) was launched in July 2022, marking the initial foray by Nothing into the smartphone market. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chip and comes with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It is pre-installed with the Android 12 system and uses NothingOS 1.0.

The Nothing Phone (1) is equipped with a 4500 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging, 15W Qi wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging.

In other news, it was reported that the new Nothing Phone (2) would be launched globally on July 11th at 20:30, Indian Standard Time. The phone had been the subject of several reports, which had provided details on various aspects of the phone, including its processor configuration, screen information, software, and accessories.

The Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, support 12GB of memory, and be equipped with a 4,700 mAh battery. It will come pre-installed with the Android 13 system and receive three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.
