Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 4 Data Leaks Prematurely!

According to @TechReve Gen 4 it will have 3.4Ghz Cortex-X4 Large Core & will use TSMC enhanced 3nm Node for building the chipset!

According to the popular tech leaker @Tech Reve on Twitter, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will have a really fast GPU frequency of 900MHz, which is even higher than the 770MHz that people were guessing before. It also has a powerful CPU with a 3.4GHz Cortex-X4 large core.

The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be made using TSMC’s N3E process which is their enhanced version of their existing 3nm process.

Kuba Wojciechowski mentioned that the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the model name “SM8650” and is known as “Lanai” or “Pineapple” internally. This processor uses a 2+3+2+1 core architecture.

  • 2 Arm “silver” cores codenamed “Hayes” (A5xx)
  • 3 Arm “gold” cores codenamed “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 2 Arm “titanium” cores codenamed “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 1 Arm “gold+” core codenamed “Hunter ELP” (Xn)
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset might not be compatible with 32-bit Android apps and games because it doesn’t have the necessary CPU cores. This means that app developers need to update their apps to the 64-bit architecture to make them work with this chipset.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be compatible with Android 14 and Linux Kernel 6.1. It’s manufactured using TSMC’s improved 4 nm process or Samsung’s 3 nm process.

There were reports earlier that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would not use ARM CPU design but instead would have Qualcomm’s own customized Oryon core solution. This new solution is expected to improve multi-core performance by up to 40%.

Reports suggest that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset has two “Nuvia Phoenix” performance cores and six “Nuvia Phoenix M” efficiency cores. It’s worth noting that Nuvia is a company that was acquired by Qualcomm and is known for developing custom CPUs.

According to Geekbench 5 benchmarks by Tech Reve, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset has a single-core performance score of 1800 points and a multi-core performance score of 6500 points.

On the other hand, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset scored 2070 points in single-core performance and 9100 points in multi-core performance in the same Geekbench 5 benchmark test.

Note that the multi-core score of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can even exceed that of M2, which is currently in the range of 8800 to 9000 points.

These are all rumours for now which have to be taken with a pinch of salt. But if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 comes out to be like this then the next generation of Android flagships would see some major power and efficiency gains. Are you excited about this new tech development?
