On July 18, a survey by Reuters and Nikkei Research showed that nearly a quarter of the 506 Japanese companies surveyed have adopted AI in their business operations. However, over 40% have no plans to use this advanced technology.

The survey found that around 24% of respondents have integrated AI, 35% plan to do so, while 41% have no such plans, indicating varying levels of technological adoption among Japanese companies.

When asked about the reasons for adopting AI, 60% cited addressing labor shortages, 53% mentioned reducing labor costs, and 36% aimed to accelerate research and development.

A manager from a transport company mentioned that concerns about potential job cuts make employees anxious, hindering AI adoption. Other reasons included lack of expertise, high capital expenditure, and reliability concerns.

The survey also showed that 15% of respondents experienced cyberattacks in the past year, with 9% of their business partners facing similar issues. Among those affected, 23% reported temporary business interruptions, and 4% faced data breaches.
