Is the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) necessary?
Sometimes a lot of tech companies do unnecessary things in the name of innovation. We have routinely seen tech companies indulge in a lot of feature wars just to claim superiority.

The quintessential problem here is that sometimes a lot of these features are not required at all. As the Google Pixel lineup too has shown us that you don’t need a lot of sensors in order to click a great image.

Now we have Samsung, a company which is just one bad launch away from becoming obsolete. They have been at it for a long time. Some of their launches were my absolute favourite devices. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8 were my flagship devices of choice when they were launched.

They recently introduced the first phone with a quad camera set up in the world i.e. the Galaxy A9 2018 edition. It has been launched almost immediately after the launch of their first triple camera phone i.e. the Galaxy A7 (2018).

It adds to that set up by adding an additional telephoto lens at the back. It has the ultra wide angle sensor, as well as telephoto sensor.

You can either capture the scene fully or capture closer detail by alternating between these two sensor setups. There’s also one more sensor to help with the depth sensing and then there’s one primary camera sensor.

The telephoto sensor provides 2x optical zoom when compared to the main sensor and it captures images up to 10-megapixel resolution. The main sensor is a 24 MP one and comes with a f/1.7 lens which would be great for low light situations.

The 120-degree wide angle camera has an 8 MP sensor. It also comes with an AI-based Intelligent Scene optimizer which allows adjusting the camera settings automatically based on the scene. And then the depth-sensing camera is the one with a 5 MP resolution for bokeh shots.

So including that, the total camera count comes to 5.

Both the variants of the A9 have 128 GB of storage and there’s a microSD card slot too. You have the option to choose between 6 or 8 GB of RAM.

The A9 comes with the latest Exynos Octa-Core processor. It runs on Android 8 Oreo and has some Samsung add-on apps like Samsung Pay, Bixby and Health.

The Galaxy A9 2018 edition has a 3800 mAh battery, it’s huge on paper and should also give you sufficient backup in real-world usage. The phone comes with a fingerprint reader on the back. The back has a 3D glass design which is curved to improve the ergonomics.
