Samsung recently made an announcement on May 15th that it will be releasing two smartphones tailored for the US military: the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition. These phones will be an upgrade from the Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition that was launched last year, and they will come with additional special features and apps designed for military missions.

According to reports, both military phones will come pre-equipped with Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit (BATDOK) along with other applications. ATAK will enhance the real-time situational awareness of warfighters, while BATDOK will collect and distribute real-time casualty information.

Furthermore, both phones comply with US military security standards and are safeguarded by Samsung Knox and Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR), which meets the requirements of the US National Security Agency (NSA) for protecting classified data.

Another noteworthy feature of these two phones is Samsung’s DeX technology, which enables military law enforcement to use the phone instead of a laptop while operating in a car.

In terms of hardware, both military phones have the same quality and configuration as their commercial counterparts. The Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition features IP68 dust and water resistance, Gorilla Glass Victus+, and Armor aluminium alloy materials.

Additionally, it comes with a robust military-grade protective case that can be worn on the chest or forearm. The XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition also has IP68 dust and water resistance and meets the MIL-STD-810H standard, which means it can withstand a drop of 5 feet (approx. 1.5 meters) and function properly in different temperature conditions.

Samsung announced these two new products during last week’s SOF week and stated that they will be officially launched this summer, although their current price remains unknown. Samsung believes that these two military-grade smartphones will be

“valuable tools to help our warfighters accomplish their missions.”
