Renowned International analyst Guo Minghao has predicted that the new 2019 iPhone in the second half of 2019 would come with a different antenna material. In the latest report, Guo Minghao pointed out that the new iPhone in the second half of this year will bring a big change in the material of the antenna soft board. The new suppliers Pengding Holdings/Yingding, Dongshan Precision and Taijuncheng are the main winners and Jialianyi might lose the iPhone order. Guo Mingxi believes that although LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) has the advantage of high-frequency wireless transmission in theory. But due to production problems, the LCP antenna soft board limits the wireless performance of the iPhone XS Max/XS/XR in some cases. LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) is a new type of thermoplastic organic material that enables high-frequency, high-speed soft boards while maintaining high reliability. At the same time, LCP has excellent electrical characteristics. At present, LCP is mainly used in high-frequency circuit substrates, COF substrates, multilayer boards, IC packages, high-frequency connectors, antennas, speaker boards and the like. 2019 iPhone: What to expect? There's an expected change to MPI material. "This is because MPI (Modified PI) wireless performance in the 4G/LTE band does not lose to LCP, and there are production and cost advantages. We expect most of the new iPhone antenna soft board will abandon LCP material to use MPI ." However, Guo Mingxi also said that after the improvement of production problems, the future 5G antenna soft board materials will still be dominated by LCP. Pengding Holdings/Yingding, Dongshan Precision and Taichung County are expected to become the new 2020 iPhone LCP antenna's soft board suppliers. So we might not see a new antenna design till the late 2020s in the iPhones. So what about the 2020 iPhone? Guo Minghao said that we believe that in the production improvement and more suppliers, the new 2020 iPhone will adopt more LCP antenna soft boards to support 5G, and Pengding Holdings/Yingding, Dongshan Precision and Taichung County are expected to become suppliers. And become the beneficiary of the high unit pricing of LCP antenna soft board. Previously, Guo Minghao predicted in the report that two new iPad Pros are expected to be mass-produced in the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020. The two new iPad Pros are the same size as the current size, and will also come in 11 inches and 12.9 inches variants. And would be the first to show the use of LCP soft boards for connecting antennas and motherboards to reduce signal loss and improve networking performance. Let's see when will all these changes gear up for a better signal performance in upcoming 5G iPhones. The 2019 iPhone would most probably still be using the older material.
