Reportedly, the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with a periscope lens that is exclusively designed for the device, capable of providing up to 6x optical zoom.On May 10, multiple news reports cited Twitter user @URedditor claiming that the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature an upgraded telephoto lens and periscope technology. In a recent report, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed that the periscope lens will enable up to 5x to 6x optical zoom for the rear camera of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will offer up to 3x zoom. Optical zoom provides a clearer image when zooming in, unlike digital zoom, which may cause blurring. A periscope lens allows for greater distance between camera elements while maintaining a compact design, as the absorbed light is folded or bent before reaching the image sensor. This technology has already been used by Android-branded phones such as Samsung, Google, and Huawei, with phones like the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra offering 5x to 10x optical zoom. The iPhone 15 series, which includes the iPhone 15 Pro Max (also known as iPhone 15 Ultra), is expected to be launched by Apple in September, while other models like the iPhone 15 Standard Edition, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro are not expected to come with a periscope lens.
