Micron Technology has partnered with Tata Projects, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Gujarat, India.
Reports indicate that the two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian government to set up the plant in the Gujarat Industrial Development Company area in Sanand, Gujarat.
The project will spread across 93 acres of land and require an estimated investment of $2.75 billion (Editor’s note: Currently about INR 228 Billion or 20.075 billion yuan), with Micron contributing up to $8.25 billion (currently about INR 684.19 Billion or 6.023 billion yuan).
The initiative is part of the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and the Tata statement describes it as a significant milestone and the largest investment yet.
Construction of the facility is slated to begin shortly, with the first phase focusing on creating a 500,000-square-foot cleanroom space. When fully operational by the end of 2024, the plant will assemble and test DRAM and NAND memory products.
“This long-lasting project is an important milestone for us and the largest investment under the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM),”
a Tata statement said.
To expedite the construction process, Tata Projects will employ innovative techniques such as 4D BIM and hybrid modularization, along with environmentally friendly technologies to meet the Green Building Council’s LEED Gold Standard.
This collaboration marks a significant development in the Indian technology sector and demonstrates Micron’s commitment to advancing the industry worldwide.
