Tesla Pushes FSD v12.5.1 Update with Earlier, More Natural Lane Changes

On July 28, Tesla began rolling out the FSD (Full Self-Driving) v12.5.1 update, which includes several improvements such as the integration of city and highway driving functionalities, and initial support for the Cybertruck model.

The FSD v12.5.1 update started reaching some users’ vehicles on Friday, alongside the 2024.20.15 software update. Elon Musk had previously highlighted some features of this version, with a key enhancement being earlier and more natural lane changes.

The update is highly anticipated, as Musk mentioned in May that FSD 12.5 would first be implemented in the Cybertruck. He also stated that the rollout would begin in late June, significantly reducing the frequency of manual interventions per mile.

Recently, Musk announced that the FSD 12.5.x version would finally merge the city and highway driving software stacks. Additionally, the new version allows drivers to wear sunglasses while using FSD, a feature that previously required drivers to maintain constant attention.

Musk also noted that Tesla’s “Actual Smart Summon” (ASS) feature would launch with the FSD 12.5.x version. While it is independent code, it will be bundled together.

As of now, Tesla has not yet begun pushing this update to vehicles equipped with HW3 hardware. Instead, the focus will initially be on Model Y vehicles with HW4 hardware before extending the FSD 12.5 update to other models.
