Tesla plans to address this issue through an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

NHTSA stated that these vehicles did not comply with federal safety requirements because the seat belt warning light and sound might not activate as expected when the driver does not fasten the seat belt.

The recall affects the following models:

  • Model S produced from 2012 to 2024
  • Model X produced from 2015 to 2024
  • Model 3 produced from 2017 to 2023
  • Model Y produced from 2020 to 2023
