Toshiba Unveils MG10-D Series Enterprise HDDs

Toshiba announced the release of its MG10-D series enterprise-grade mechanical hard drives. These drives use Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) and are air-based, meaning they do not use helium.

The MG10-D series features a 3.5-inch form factor with five platters, a rotational speed of 7200 RPM, and offers both SATA-3.3 and SAS-3.0 interfaces. Capacities range from 1TB to 10TB, with the SATA version including a 1TB option.

Designed for 24/7 enterprise use, these drives boast high reliability with an annual workload rating of 550TB, an Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) of 0.44%, and a Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) of 2 million hours.

Toshiba claims notable improvements in performance and power efficiency over previous models. The 10TB SATA-3.3 model (MG10ADA10TE) achieves a maximum sequential transfer rate of 268 MiB/s, a 13% increase, and doubles the cache to 512MiB. Additionally, power consumption in active idle mode is reduced by about 21%, down to 5.74W.

Toshiba’s representative, Sou Shouzou, stated that the MG10-D series offers exceptional performance to meet the growing demands of critical business applications.

The innovative design ensures seamless integration into existing infrastructures, reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
