Rolls out phase 1 of manufacturing expansion – Total annual manufacturing capacity now stands at 33.4mn units. Production as part of the Phase II expansion to begin from mid-2020. The total number of employees in manufacturing unit stands at approximately 10000 presently.
vivo, the global innovative smartphone brand, today announced the roll-out of phase 1 of its new manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh, as part of its approximately 7,500 Cr investment plan in India. vivo India produces approximately 25 million units at its existing manufacturing set up. With the help of this new facility, vivo will now be able to produce more than 33 million devices annually (25mn+8.4mn).
With the Phase I expansion in manufacturing set up, vivo has added over 2000 workforce at its new manufacturing facility located at WTC Tech zone, Greater Noida, UP. In an aggressive mode of expansion in the country, vivo has embarked on a long term plan to boost the economic growth for Indian smartphone sector. As part of the Phase II expansion, the company plans to add approximately 5000+ employees, taking the total employment in vivo manufacturing facilities to approximately 15,000 employees. This investment makes vivo as one of the top investors for the state of UP.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Nipun Marya, Director-Brand Strategy, vivo India said,
“We have been wholly aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative since our inception in 2014. From time and time again we have shown our commitment to the region by constantly expanding our manufacturing capabilities. With the help of our new facility in Greater Noida, we will be able to meet the growing demands for our products in India. It gives me immense pleasure to welcome the 2000 new members to the vivo India family.”
vivo India has been consistently strengthening its market share in the Indian smartphone market. As per the latest Counterpoint Q3, 2019 report, vivo reached its highest ever market share of 17 per cent in the Indian Smartphone market driven by the good performance of its mid-segment series (vivo S1 and Y17) and increased focus towards the online segment with its recently launched devices U10, Z1X and Z1Pro. This year vivo will be completing five glorious years in the country. The brand will continue to build a strong foundation to create a successful long-term brand in India, and continuously bring innovative backed by an aggressive marketing strategy.
