The race towards bezel-less smartphones started accelerating towards the end of 2017. We are just halfway through 2018 and we already have our first contender for the bezel-less crown. It is the Vivo Nex smartphone by Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo. This smartphone is a public adaptation of the Vivo Apex which was a concept phone showcased earlier this year. It employs a wide range of technologies in order to allow for a truly bezel-less experience. We will talk more about how it manages the impossible and when it would be launched in India, along with its pricing and specifications.
Let’s get Vivo Nex specifications out-of-the-way first, it comes in two variants the Vivo Nex S and the Vivo Nex A.
The Vivo Nex A is the more economical model of the two and has some watered down specifications while the Vivo Nex S is the full-fledged flagship model of the two.
Table of Contents
Vivo Nex A specifications and price:
The Nex A would come with a 6.59-inch display with a screen to body ratio of a whopping 91.24%.
It has a resolution of 2316*1080 and has 338 PPI pixel density. It will come with a Super AMOLED display, but how good/bad it would be would be determined only after our first hands-on of the same. It has a unique aspect ratio of 19.3:9 which makes it one of a kind.
It would come with a Snapdragon 710 SOC with an Adreno 616 GPU. The Nex A will have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
It would come with a dual primary camera with 12 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 1/2.5 inch sensor size, 1.4 um pixel size and will also sport Dual pixel phase detection autofocus technology. The 5 PM additional sensor would have a f/2.4 aperture, 4 axis OIS support, phase detection autofocus and the rear camera would also come with a dual-LED dual-tone flash.
The secondary camera for selfies would be an 8 MP camera with a f/2.0 aperture. It’s housed inside the motorized enclosure which doesn’t look like the sturdiest thing in the world but is a novel implementation.
The phone would not skip on the 3.5 mm headphone jack and will also support 32 bit 192 kHz high fidelity audio.
It would come with a 4000 mAh battery and would have a type C connector unlike most of the Vivo phones which were stuck on micro USB till now.
Pricing is expected to be around INR 41,050 i.e. RMB 3,898.
Vivo Nex S specifications and price:
The Vivo Nex S is also known as the Vivo Nex Ultimate or NEX Special Edition. It sports slightly better specifications than the Nex A. It will sport a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8 GB of RAM. It would also come with a 256 GB special edition.
The Nex A has a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. But the Nex S is great in terms of sporting the in-display fingerprint sensor technology which we first saw in the Vivo X21 and personally we hope that it would be faster this time around! But nonetheless, the first time implementation wasn’t too bad either.
The Vivo Nex S is expected to retail for a price of around INR 45K-47.5K. The 256 GB variant is expected to be priced around INR 50K-52.7K.
Both of these phones would be available in ruby-red and diamond black colours when they go on sale.
The launch date is expected to be June 23 but there’s no clear information yet on the same.
We will update this post with detailed hands-on, unboxing and review videos as and when we get the review units for the same.
Till then do let us know your thoughts on both of these smartphones. Do you really believe that this is the right direction in which smartphones are heading or is the future yet to arrive?
