Leica optics, to build the perfect Summicron Lens of Leica in mobile imaging
Xiaomi and Leica have cooperated strategically in the global imaging field and have upgraded the Summicron lens for mobile imaging in the optical system, offering “a coming-of-age ceremony in mobile imaging.” The Leica optical system of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a compact size, large aperture, high imaging performance, reliability, and durability, inherited from the optical concept of the Leica M series.
The lens uses an ultra-high-order polynomial design, which enables the precision design to reach a nanometer level, nearing the optical limit. The lens also has a multi-layer coating that greatly reduces glare and ghosting, providing stable performance in extremely cold and hot environments.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with a quad camera system with Leica optical lenses, covering focal lengths ranging from 12mm (ultra-wide angle), 23mm (wide angle), 75mm (telephoto), to the new 120mm (super-telephoto), as well as extra 46mm and 240mm lengths through the In-Sensor-Zoom. The smartphone’s professional camera setting offers variable aperture and focal length flexibility.
Three of the cameras have an aperture wider than ƒ/2.0, which allows more light and a soft, shallow depth of field, as well as shorter shutter times for quicker capturing of natural moments. The main camera boasts an ultra-large 1-inch IMX989 sensor and a physical two-stop aperture, switching between ƒ/1.9 and ƒ/4.0, providing more freedom to content creators in customizing exposures based on different scenarios.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra also introduces a new Fast Shot mode that allows focus-free snapshots by setting the focus point manually, capturing the moment in just 0.8 seconds, inspired by the “hyperfocal distance” shooting method used by street photographers.
Pro colour restoration capability
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has optimized the RAW workflow, migrating more algorithms to the RAW domain to maximize the dynamic range, details, and texture of the image, improving imaging quality significantly.
The main camera supports 50MP RAW, providing a higher imaging resolution, while also providing multi-frame 14-bit UltraRAW that takes the data directly from the computing pipeline, resulting in better resolution and high dynamic range. Adobe creates camera profiles, providing a better starting point for post-production.
The device has a 6.73″ pro-grade WQHD+ display with excellent colour accuracy and up to 2600 nits peak brightness. This display is calibrated according to the new CIE 2015 colourimetry, supporting automatic colour management to ensure accurate and consistent colour presentation across different displays.
Self-developed heat dissipation technology & Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra offers an ultra-fast experience with a self-developed heat dissipation technology and Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System, making it the most powerful device in the Xiaomi Ultra product line, providing a top-notch flagship experience.
The smartphone pays homage to the classic look of Leica’s M camera series with its circular camera module, unibody metal frame, and leather texture finish. With a weight of 227g and a more resilient unibody metal frame than the previous generation, the smartphone’s design offers a secure grip and a foundation for the entire structure.
The back panel of Xiaomi 13 Ultra is wrapped in a second-generation antibacterial nanotech silicone leather that resists fingerprints, and smudges, and is antibacterial and anti-yellowing. Its bacterial inhibition rate can reach up to 99%, making it ideal for nearly any environment.
The latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor, with 4nm process technology, equips Xiaomi 13 Ultra with superior performance and energy consumption. The smartphone supports up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and UFS4.0 storage of up to 1 TB, as well as FBO (File Based Optimization). Xiaomi 13 Ultra also features a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, capable of DisplayPort video output up to 4K 60Hz.
Xiaomi’s self-developed Loop LiquidCool technology, with the first landing of an aerospace-grade large toroidal cooling system on a smartphone, ensures equivalent thermal conductivity more than three times that of traditional VCs. The technology’s heat dissipation capacity exceeds 10W and enables Xiaomi 13 Ultra to support stable 4K 60fps video recording without frame rate drop due to temperature.
Xiaomi Surge P2 Charging Chip and Xiaomi Surge G1 Battery Management Chip paired with a 5,000mAh battery, allows Xiaomi 13 Ultra to estimate the battery life at extremely granular levels. The device adds a new Hibernation mode, automatically triggered when the battery is low, limiting background activities, and offering up to 60 minutes of additional standby.
