It doesn’t happen much that an already well-established brand introduces an entirely new sub-brand, but Xiaomi has done just that with their latest Pocophone sub-brand, and the first entrant of the new series is Pocophone F1, a very stylish and polished model with a spec sheet that can crumble the mid-range market effectively.
So let’s get started with our Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 review!
A bezel-less body accompanied by a notch which is accommodating the infrared sensor is the first thing you will notice about the device.
The phone is already a heavyweight, going by the specs sheet and we can certainly feel how hard Xiaomi has worked in creating a phone which can provide users with the best of both worlds, premium features at mid-range prices.
Let’s have a quick rundown of the specs of the new Xiaomi Poco F1!
Table of Contents
Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 Review: Body and Display
The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has a plastic body with a Kevlar or plastic back. But it doesn’t really look plasticky at all, in fact, there’s a very premium vibe coming off it. The front is occupied with a Gorilla glass-protected display.
Talking further about the Screen, it’s a 6.18″ IPS LCD display with 2246x1080px resolution at 403ppi.
Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 Review: Camera
The new Pocophone F1 comes with a dual camera in the back, a Primary 12 MP 1/2.55′ sensor, and a secondary 5 MP serving as a depth sensor. It can record at 2160p/30fps and 1080p/240fps slow motion.
The front camera is a 20-megapixel shooter for all your selfies and video calls which can record at 1080p/30fps.
The phone also gives users an option to record in H.265 codec for lower file sizes which is a great addition.
Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 Review: OS/Chipset/Memory
The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 will be equipped with Android 8.1, Oreo, and MIUI 9.5 for Poco Custom. An update to both will come soon. The chipset used in the device is the premium Snapdragon 845 octa-core CPU with Adreno 630 GPU.
Coming to the memory part, users will have options in 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128/256 GB of Storage for all their needs. It will also come with hybrid memory slots for consumers who can still run out of storage.
Aside from these, coming to battery and connectivity, you get a 4000 mAh, dual-sim device.
Overall it’s a very reasonable device for the price range of sub 20K and value for money. It is yet to be seen whether the new Pocophone is a game changer or just another marketing idea from a big brand. Hopefully, we will get to know it all soon enough, till then Pocophone is going nowhere.
The phone comes with a dedicated stereo speaker setup and the sound output was excellent on this phone!
Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 Review: The Verdict
With a solid price tag, flagship-grade features, and almost every pillar of a great smartphone experience covered it seems that the Poco F1 has taken the budget crown for this year. A lot of efforts are also being done by the Poco team in order to kickstart custom ROM development for their device along with bringing in the developer community for more serious action.
The only serious issues that remain with this phone are flash sales and lack of availability. It’s very hard to just go out in the market and buy a Poco F1. Even if you wait for online sales, the real-world chances of being able to buy one easily are very slim! We hope Xiaomi is able to improve this situation in the near future!
