Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Review : The Saga Continues

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 review: The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has annihilated almost every other smartphone in the sub 13K price bracket upto the 9K price bracket in the Indian market and rightly so as this smartphone is the one with almost every feature and software enhancement done right.

Initially, when it was launched it had few issues and the feature set wasn’t complete as shown on the demo units but with later software updates the fingerprint lock mechanism for apps and other features were also introduced to the general public.

This is the review where in we will incorporate every aspect of this smartphone, so let’s just start our Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 review without wasting much time!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 review: Let’s begin.

Build and Design:

The Redmi Note 3 features a solid all-metal build which is not exactly glossy but rather a dull muted type build that looks really great in hand and is not much slippery.

The phone does get heated at times because of this same metallic build. The back of this phone sports a fingerprint sensor and speaker grill at the bottom with a small protrusion to avoid muffling the sound.

The camera on the Redmi Note 3 is good but not superlative. As compared to Xiaomi’s previous budget flagship phone i.e. the Mi4i the camera is a slight disappointment despite the Megapixel bump from 13 MP to 16 MP.  The front camera of the Redmi Note 3 is 5 MP and offers decent-quality images.

The camera is also capable of shooting up to 2160p 4K UHD videos using the Google Camera application. You can see our camera samples in the videos below to ascertain the camera quality for yourself.

The device comes with a Snapdragon 650 chipset, 2 GB/3 GB of RAM, 16 GB/32 GB of internal storage, and on paper is a very strong device.

It does perform solidly on the benchmarks too and in terms of gaming performance too. You can watch our full gaming review along with heating tests for the Redmi Note 3 in the below video.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with a non-user removable 4000 mAh Li-Po battery and its superb battery life is one of the greatest strengths of this device. On heavy use this device lasts the whole day long and on moderate use it lasts for a day and a half. On low usage, this device can last up to 2-3 days and that’s pretty impressive. Apart from the high battery capacity optimizations done in MIUI itself help this device to last this long!

The Redmi Note 3 comes with Android 5.1.1-based MIUI 7 preinstalled and is expected to receive an update to Marshmallow-based MIUI over due course of time. MIUI 8 will soon be launched on May 10, 2016, and it would help this device become even better than right now. You can watch our full review video of this device in order to know about all of the features of MIUI and how good/bad MIUI performs on this device.

Earlier this device had really poor RAM management and the launcher reloaded very quickly but right now it has been fixed via the latest update of MIUI. A few other known issues include the non-working of 4G on this smartphone after the recent MIUI update. But a fix is underway and this too would soon be resolved.

For the price for this device retails it’s a complete package and leaves very little to be desired apart from the low availability of stocks and the poor flash sale-based model that Xiaomi is running right now.
