Available on Flipkart from 13th July, 2015 at a price of Rs 12,999/-, here’s a sneak peek into specifications of this device. Xolo Black overview: Specifications and price

1. Display and design:

A great combination of style and elegance, this new flagship device from XOLO has a 5.5 inch full HD display along with a pixel density of 401 PPI. With FHD (1080*1920) resolution and 16 M colours, the display of the phone appears to vibrant and refreshing. One Glass Solution Technology handles the display technology of this device and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (Both Rear & Back) provides protection from any kind of scratches.

The designing is done keeping in mind the stylish smartphone generation. The display blends seamlessly with the round edges of the device with softer curves for a smooth and natural grip. At just 7.3 mm thickness, Black provides easy one hand access but as compared to other flagship devices in this range, it will be considered little thick in body. One may also find light for non-intrusive notifications amusing through power button, which has been dubbed as the “Breathing light“. Users can also personalize this notification light to subtle colours of their choice.

2. Camera:

The dual rear camera module in BLACK uses a combination of 13MP and 2 MP camera set-up, which has been made meticulously to give the user best photography experience and also acting like selling point for the device. The two cameras on the rear side of BLACK work in synchronization to create unique imaging experiences, including features like super-fast focus and depth mapping for post-capture image processing. Some other unique features of the device include UbiFocus that allows users to focus and refocus objects even after capturing it, Fast Focus that takes only 0.15 seconds to capture any moving object, ChromaFlash that helps you retain natural colours and skin tones in low light etc.

The front camera is 5 MP and its 81 degree wide angled lens helps in clicking groupfies/selfies without any hassle. Other general camera features include Image Stabilization, Auto Scene detection & tuning, High Dynamic Range (HDR), Face recognition (For focusing as well as in Gallery), Red eye removal, Geo tagging, Panorama capture, Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL), etc. All of these features and more are covered in our video review at the end of this post!

3. Software:

BLACK runs on HIVE Atlas which is the latest version of XOLO’s proprietary software platform. It not only offers a host of unique features and functionalities to enrich and customize the smartphone experience but includes cool features like Material Design that provides smooth user experience based on Android v5.0, Lollipop.

Apart from this, there is Underground that provides secure space to store private apps and data which gives additional privacy to users who need it. Reading Mode, where smartphone can also transform itself into a e-book reader, Comet Browser that can give desktop like browsing even in weak network areas and saves battery also.

4. Processor and performance:

Black comes with 2nd Gen Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 615, MSM 8939 and ARM Architecture of 64 bit, Cortex A53. It has a octa core processor; 1.5 GHz Octa Core (1.5GHz Quad Core + 1.0GHz Quad Core) that makes browsing on phone and multi functioning pretty smooth. It comes with an Adreno 405 GPU for enhanced gaming performance!

5. Storage and Battery:

Black comes with an internal memory of 16 GB and RAM of 2 GB, LPDDR3. The memory is expandable up to 32 GB using micro SD card. The battery capacity of the device is 3200 mAh Li-Polymer which can make the phone juices last for at least 24 hrs with regular amount of browsing and music and other gaming activities. With software and hardware optimizations and CPU-GPU combined load optimization done by Xolo the battery is expected to last 20% extra than it might last normally!

Conclusion

So who should buy this phone? Considering all that this phone provides it’s a serious competition to the Xiaomi Mi 4i and other sub 15k to 10k INR priced devices. It gets almost everything right and the only design flaw it has is that the glass body attracts too many fingerprints and oil, but yeah it can all be rubbed away (if you are okay with cleaning your screen every once in a while).
For a price of INR 12,999 this phone hits all the right points and combined with Xolo’s dedicated customer support where in they are offering same day customer care and on the spot repairs, it looks like a lucrative option.
