According to a recent report, the launch of Apple’s highly anticipated large-screen MacBook Air is imminent. Ross Young, a DSCC analyst, reported that the production of the 15.5-inch MacBook Air panel has commenced this month, indicating an expected launch in early April.
Both Ross Young and Bloomberg have previously discussed the potential release of the 15-inch MacBook Air in the spring of 2023. It would be the largest display size ever for the MacBook Air. The device is expected to be similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air, but with a larger display.
This will give consumers the option to choose from two different screen sizes: 13.6 inches and 15.5 inches. In the past, Apple offered the MacBook Air in two sizes – 11 inches and 13 inches – but has since streamlined its lineup by discontinuing the 11-inch version.
Ross Young did not reveal any further information about the new MacBook Air model, such as whether it would feature the M2 chip or the upcoming 3nm-based M3 chip, which has yet to be officially announced by Apple. In December, Apple’s chip manufacturer, TSMC, started mass producing 3nm chips, but it is unclear if the M3 chip will be ready for the expected April launch.
Ming-Chi Kuo, another analyst, has also mentioned the rumoured 15-inch MacBook Air, although he referred to it as a general “MacBook” rather than “MacBook Air.” Kuo claims that the 15-inch MacBook will be available in two configurations: M2 and M2 Pro, while the 13-inch MacBook Air will only offer the M2 chip.
Furthermore, according to Bloomberg, Apple is also working on a 12-inch MacBook, although it is not expected to launch until late 2023 or early 2024 at the earliest.
