Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, expressed his disagreement this Saturday with the potential ban of TikTok in the United States, despite potential benefits to his platform, Twitter.
He stated that such a ban would contradict the spirit of “freedom of speech and expression” that the U.S. stands for.
Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that could ban TikTok’s use in the U.S. by a large majority, but it stalled in the Senate.
However, the House approved a similar bill today, which, if passed, will have the same effect on TikTok.
The new bill demands that ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, sell its shares in TikTok within 270 days, compared to the previous six-month requirement.
If President Biden signs this into law, TikTok may follow Montana’s example by suing over free speech rights.
