Apple has been known for providing timely software updates to all of its smartphones. A lot of people buy iPhones only because they need the iOS experience and the timely updates which Apple offers. Apple has one of the best update cycles in the whole industry. Android manufacturers generally stop supporting their devices 1-2 years after the launch. Apple is pretty different in that regard as even extremely old iPhones get latest updates. But there are new rumours about a list of unsupported devices for iOS 13. This means that a lot of devices would soon stop getting updates.
According to foreign publication ZDNet news, they have leaked a list of iOS devices that iOS 13 won’t be supporting. Talk about planned obsolescence!
iOS 13 details and rumours:
The iPhone series removed from support includes the A7 chip in the iPhone 5s, the A8 chip in the iPhone 6 series, and the A9 chip in the iPhone SE. The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 are also equipped with A7 chips. But this is a confusing decision as it doesn’t seem to be based on chips rather than forcing consumers to update.
If the A7 chip is no longer supported, it is reasonable to stop updates for it. But the chip is also used in the iPad mini 3. In fact, in addition to the new Touch ID, the iPad mini 3 is almost identical to its predecessor. The A8 chip is included in the iPad mini 4, the A9 is present in the iPad 5, and the earlier model of the iPad Pro is equipped with the A9X processor.
As for whether the truth is in line with the rumours, it is necessary to wait until the final news is announced in June at the Apple WWDC. So guys what do you think? Will Apple really screw all the old generation iPhone and iPad owners this time around? Do let us know in the comments section below!
