In 2022, NVIDIA released its 40 series graphics cards, and although the company has not yet fully revealed all the 40 series cards, there are already leaks circulating on the internet about the upcoming 50 series.
According to a recent video by Paul, the anchor of the RedGamingTech YouTube channel, Nvidia is presently working on and testing the RTX 50 series graphics card, which has been given the codename “Blackwell”. He stated that the card’s performance is expected to be 2-2.6 times better than the RTX 40 series.
In the same video, Paul mentioned that the consumer-grade RTX 50 series graphics cards are being designed with a monolithic CPU chip (also known as a monolithic die), while the high-end HPC servers will use MCM (Multi-Chip Module) technology. The RTX 50 Blackwell GPU will have GDDR7 memory, support PCIe Gen 5, and provide clock frequencies in excess of 3GHz in games.
According to Paul, the RTX 50 series graphics cards are being mass-produced using TSMC’s 3nm process, which has been customized specifically for Nvidia’s graphics cards. This new process is said to improve the streaming multiprocessor and optimize the ultra-high-speed bus interconnection between SMs, resulting in significantly improved ray tracing and path tracing performance.
When the RTX 50 Blackwell graphics card is released, gaming enthusiasts can expect an unprecedented level of graphics performance. However, it may be some time before they are available, as the cards are expected to be unveiled towards the latter half of 2024. This leaves gamers with a difficult decision to make. They can either upgrade to one of the recently released RTX 40 series cards, or they can wait until next year for even more efficient and powerful 50 series graphics cards.
