Apple watchOS 11 Will Not Support Apple Watch Series 4/5

On June 10, it was reported that Apple will hold its WWDC 2024 developer conference early tomorrow morning, unveiling iOS/iPadOS 18, visionOS 2, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and other operating systems.

According to MacRumors, watchOS 11 will not support the 2018 Apple Watch Series 4, the 2019 Apple Watch Series 5, or the first-generation Apple Watch SE from 2020.

This update will be compatible with the Apple Watch Series 6 and later models.

Apple’s discontinuation of support for the Series 4 is expected, as the Series 3 stopped receiving updates after watchOS 9 in 2022.

However, the end of support for the Series 5 is somewhat surprising compared to previous information.

The Series 5 offered significant upgrades over the Series 4, including an always-on display, increased storage, and a built-in compass.

Earlier today, the compatible devices for iOS 18 were also revealed:

  • iPhone 15 / Plus / Pro / Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 / Plus / Pro / Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 / mini / Pro / Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 / mini / Pro / Pro Max
  • iPhone 11 / Pro / Max
  • iPhone XS / Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation) / (3rd generation)
