Corning recently announced the Corning Gorilla Glass 6. As far as we remember the real groundbreaking stuff was the Gorilla Glass 3 and even subsequent versions till the 5th iteration weren’t met with the sort of acclaim they had expected. According to a spokesperson at Corning, the Gorilla Glass 6 is made up of an entirely new substance.
It can easily survive multiple drops and their tests showed that Gorilla Glass 6 survived up to 15 drops from One meter before breaking down. This is almost twice the number of drops that Gorilla Glass 5 could withstand.
They tested these on 120 grit sandpaper and the results were impressive as the durability improvements are almost twice from the previous generation.
Gorilla Glass 6 is an entirely new glass composition that can be chemically strengthened to give it significantly higher levels of compression than is possible with Gorilla Glass 5. This enables Gorilla Glass 6 to be more resistant to damage.

The Corning Gorilla Glass 6 has a different chemical composition than the previous generations. It allows it to have an increased level of compression this makes the Gorilla Glass 6 much more resistant to damage as compared to the previous versions.
According to data by Corning, the instances of people dropping their phone is around 7 times a year and more than 50 per cent of the drops occur within a height of 1 meter.
Corning’s Gorilla Glass is present on more than 6 billion devices all across the world which are manufactured by more than Forty-Five major brands.
Corning can also print any design on the back of Gorilla Glass 6. This means that more customizable smartphones with beautiful glass backs are coming later in 2018!
