Google Jamboard Is the Latest Entry to Google’s Graveyard of Products/services

Google’s whiteboard application Jamboard will be discontinued by the end of next year

Reports have surfaced that Google Podcasts will be ending its run later this year, but it’s not the only Google application facing retirement.  This week, Google revealed that its collaborative Jamboard whiteboard software will also meet its demise come December 31st, 2024.

In an official blog post, Google explained its decision to terminate Jamboard, stating it wants to focus on supporting third-party whiteboards through partnerships with companies like FigJam, Lucidspark, Miro, and Avocor.

The latter will even launch new integrations for its Series One Board 65 and Desk 27 products. Here’s how the termination timeline looks for Jamboard users: all device license subscriptions – including those for educational institutions – will conclude on September 30, 2024.

After that date, the app itself will go into “read-only” mode starting October 1st, 2024, meaning existing jams can still be accessed, but no further editing or creation will be allowed across all platforms.

Finally, on New Year’s Eve 2024, Google will shut down access entirely and initiate permanent file deletion. Affected administrators among Google Workspace clients can expect instructional emails containing specific details regarding the changes.

And just to recap, earlier rumors hinted that Google Podcasts won’t stick around much longer either; with some features migrating towards YouTube Music.
