On January 12, a Chinese blogger leaked the news that MediaTek’s upcoming 5G system on chip is going to be MT6893 .
This chip is built with a 6nm process and uses ARM’s latest Cortex A78 architecture. The chip may be named Mediatek Dimensity 1200.
At present, Snapdragon 888, Exynos 1080 and other chips use ARM’s latest Cortex A78, and MT6893 will be MediaTek’s first 6nm A78 core utilizing chipset.
The above image is Mediatek’s official poster for 20th January when they will showcase this chipset to the world. Considering that the Dimensity 1000+ utilizes the Cortex A77 architecture , the Antutu benchmark score exceeded 500,000 points for that chipset. And similarly the benchmark score of MediaTek MT6893 has exceeded 600,000 points. So performance and efficiency won’t be that much of an issue for the upcoming Mediatek chipset.
More importantly, the blogger also revealed that Redmi will use this MT6983 chip, and the specific model may be the Redmi K40 standard version which will utilize this chipset first.
At present, Redmi has announced that it will release the Redmi K40 series next month. The official confirmation is that the Redmi K40 series will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship processor. But it might be true only for the Pro version of the Redmi K40.
The standard version may use the MediaTek MT6893 chip and support SA and NSA dual-mode 5G. The new product will officially debut in a month or so.
