$100,000 per year for a thousand people: It is 40% more expensive than the original subscription cost!

On June 3, a number of news sources and “The Information” publication reported that Microsoft is currently making significant efforts to promote its AI capabilities. However, while these functions are highly advanced, they also come with high operating costs, leaving Microsoft facing the challenge of figuring out how to generate revenue from these services.

According to a person with direct knowledge of the pilot program, over 600 of Microsoft’s most prominent customers, including such major industry players as Bank of America, Walmart, Ford, and Accenture, are expected to participate in testing the AI capabilities of Microsoft’s Office 365 productivity applications.

Furthermore, this same source revealed that at least 100 of these customers have paid a fixed fee of up to $100,000 (equivalent to approximately INR 8,235,436 at current exchange rates) for the privilege of providing services to up to 1,000 subscribers. This means that these 100 customers are paying an additional 40 per cent on top of their original enterprise subscription fees for automated tasks such as having AI write text in Word documents and create PowerPoint slides.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, Microsoft introduced a new tool called the Microsoft 365 Copilot Assistant. Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology, this tool is designed to help users generate documents, emails, and presentations within Microsoft 365 applications and services.

The Copilot Assistant appears as a chatbot in the sidebar of Microsoft 365 Apps and can be summoned at any time to provide assistance with various tasks, such as generating text in documents, creating PowerPoint presentations from Word documents, and even helping with features like pivot tables in Excel.
