According to reports on September 26, Google has announced a new transatlantic submarine cable system called Nuvem, which will connect Portugal, Bermuda, and the United States. According to a Google press release, the submarine cable is named "Nuvem," which means "cloud" in Portuguese. The company states that 95% of the world's current data flows are transmitted through submarine optical cables. Walter Roban, Bermuda's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs welcomed Nuvem Submarine Cables to their rapidly growing digital Atlantic hub. He expressed Bermuda's commitment to working with Google on the cable project and establishing wider partnerships to harness the benefits of investment in digital infrastructure. The Portuguese government considers this investment significant. It will join Firmina and Equiano in creating vital new data corridors linking North and South America, Europe, and Africa. The cable is anticipated to become operational in 2026.
